Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. He fights bacteria in the body.
Doxycycline is used to treat various bacterial infections such as acne, urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, eye infections, gonorrhea, chlamydia, periodontitis (gum disease), and others.
Doxycycline is also used to treat blemishes, bumps and acne, as damage caused by rosacea. He will not refer to the reddening face caused by rosaceo.
Some forms of doxycycline are used to prevent malaria, to treat anthrax, or to treat infections caused by mites, ticks or lice.
Important information
You should not take doxycycline if you are allergic to any antibiotic tetracycline.
Before taking this medicine
You should not take this medication if you are allergic to doxycycline and other tetracycline antibiotics, such as demeclocycline, minocycline, tetracycline, or tigecycline.
In order to make sure that doxycycline is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
Liver disease;
Kidney disease;
Asthma or sulphite allergies;
History of high blood pressure inside the skull;
If you also take isotretinoin (Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret); or
If you take the seizure of medicine (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), or thinner than blood (warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven).
If you use doxycycline to treat gonorrhea, your doctor can check you to make sure that you also do not have syphilis, yet another sexually transmitted disease.
Do not use doxycycline if you are pregnant. This can harm an unborn child or cause an irreversible discoloration of the tooth at a later age. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.
Doxycycline can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about the use of the method of non-hormonal birth control (eg, condom, diaphragm, spermicide) to prevent pregnancy when using doxycycline.
Doxycycline penetrates into breast milk and can affect the bones and the development of teeth in the nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are taking this medication.
